If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 112 first. Ring us once everyone is safe.

A breakdown rarely happens somewhere convenient. It happens on a slip road, outside the school, in the far corner of a car park or halfway up the Naas Road. What you need next is simple: a tow truck, a clear price and somebody who will take the car where you want it.

Recovery CC does breakdown recovery across Dublin for cars, vans and electric cars. The car goes up onto the flatbed and is strapped down at the wheels, then driven to the address you choose.

When to ring for breakdown recovery

  • The engine has cut out and will not restart
  • A warning light came on and the car lost power
  • There is a noise, a smell or a leak and you do not want to drive it any further
  • It has been sitting for weeks and will not move under its own steam

If you are not sure whether it needs a truck, describe what happened on the call. We will tell you honestly what we think.

What we ask for

Your name, the registration, the Eircode where the car is now and the Eircode where it needs to go. If you do not know the Eircode, the road name and the nearest junction or landmark will do. A map pin from your phone is even better.

What a breakdown tow costs

A standard call-out starts from €150, plus €2 per km depending on the destination. You hear the figure on the call, and the truck sets off only once you have agreed to it. More on the tow truck prices page.

Where the car can go

Home, your own garage, a main dealer or another address you give us. You decide. If the garage is closed when we arrive, tell us on the call so we can plan the drop-off with you.

While you wait, on the M50 or a quiet street

Put the hazard lights on. On a busy road, get everyone out on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier. Keep your phone on so we can call you back if we cannot spot the car. Our note on breaking down on the M50 goes through it step by step.

Questions about this

Can you take the car to my mechanic?

Yes. Give us the garage Eircode when you call. If it will be closed when we get there, tell us so we can agree where to leave the car and the keys.

Do I have to be with the car?

Usually someone needs to hand over the keys. If that is a problem, tell us on the call and we will talk it through.

Can you move a car that has not run for months?

Yes. Tell us if the tyres are flat or the brakes are stuck on, because it changes how we load it.
